Cloth Diaper Myths Unmasked!

Are you hesitant about using cloth diapers?

Lets take a look at some of the most common cloth diaper myths…

TRUTH- Modern cloth diapers are form fitted with elasticized legs and back, have multiple snap closures and are sized by age… just like disposables. But not all modern cloth diapers are created equal. Wonderwear cloth diapers work as well or better than disposables at preventing leaks. Testimonials from our clients say it best:

Natalie had several major “digestive events” this week, and were AMAZED with how the cloth diapers handled them! Every day, we’re glad we made the choice to use your products! Allyson B. Mississauga, Ontario

While on vacation, we were using disposables and were definitely not nearly as happy as with using your diapers. I don’t know if it was just the brand we bought, but we were dealing with leaks up the back all the time. Made us really appreciate our decision to go with Wonderwear. Great diapers, great service! Fred S. Toronto, Ontario

Why do they work so well? Wonderwear diapers are a microfiber and cotton hybrid diaper with stay dry design. The outer layer of our diapers is micro terry which is significantly more absorbent than cotton. The microfleece inner layer and cotton interior pad draw wetness and bacteria away from baby’s sensitive skin. Microfleece is a common diapering fiber used as a stay dry layer. These fabrics are not designed to absorb liquids, so when used inside a diaper as the layer closest to a baby’s skin the urine passes through them and into the absorbent layers of the diaper.  This helps to keep moisture away from a baby’s skin longer, helping the skin to stay dry. This stay dry design reduces diaper rash and helps your baby sleep through the night.

It is fair to say that the quality of the diaper offered by a cloth diaper service varies considerably. Please check out this comparison chart to explore the differences between cloth diaper delivery services operating in the GTA and surrounding areas.

TRUTH- A cloth diaper service takes this worry away!  Just toss the soiled diaper in the lined diaper bag in your pail. We come once a week to drop off fresh diapers and to pick up the soiled ones. Easy breezy!

TRUTH: Cloth diapers actually often help prevent diaper rash. The difference between cloth and disposables is that in cloth, your baby will feel when they are wet whereas the chemicals in disposable diapers mask the feeling of being wet and your baby will not know they are sitting in pee or poo. Wearing cloth diapers, your baby will let you know when they need to be changed which greatly reduces the incidence of diaper rash. Diaper rash commonly occurs when babies bottoms are exposed to wet, dirty and un-breathable conditions for long periods of time. Wonderwear cloth diapers are soft, comfortable and breathable near your baby’s skin. They are also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and we even PH balance the water they are washed in to match that of babies sensitive skin.

TRUTH: With the right tools in hand, carrying a day’s worth of diapers is actually much easier than it seems.  Wet bags have been specifically designed to tackle the task of holding and transporting soiled cloth diapers.  Waterproof, wipeable and odour containing, these bags are easily stored in the bottom of your stroller or diaper bag.

TRUTH: You will save a minimum of $1000 using our service vs buying disposable diapers over the 30 months that your baby is in diapers. There is also a significant cost savings in the back end as babies using cloth diapers are typically toilet trained a full year earlier than toddlers using disposables. If you are comparing Wonderwear diaper service vs doing cloth yourself, it is true that you can save some money if you launder yourself, however, the average family going this route spends between $600-$800 on cloth diaper inventory. That’s a serious upfront cost when you may or may not be in it for the long run. What’s great about Wonderwear Cloth Diaper Delivery Service is there is no upfront cost and no long term commitment. There are starter packages we make available if you are new to cloth diapering and need a diaper pail and/or cloth diaper covers, but otherwise just the weekly service fee. TRUTH: With any cloth diaper it is true that your baby will feel wet when they are wet. This is a good thing as they will typically let you know when to change them. Bonus!! This leads to reduced incidence of diaper rash and also promotes early potty training which provides considerable cost savings for families.

Wonderwear cloth diapers are the most absorbent offered by any diaper service and are made with stay dry design to keep your baby feeling dry longer in the night, helping them stay asleep.   Wonderwear cloth diapers combine a microfleece inner layer with a cotton interior pad to draw wetness and bacteria away from baby’s sensitive skin.

For heavy night time wetters, Wonderwear has thicker nighttime diapers.  We also offer super absorbent inserts at no cost that you can use to absorb massive amounts of wetness while keeping your baby dry and helping them stay comfortable and asleep.
